As you can see on Mike Stallings Video Gallery page, we are testing the ability of members to post video clips. Thanx to Mike for his contribution!

We call this a "test" because we are uncertain of the impact the posting of large video files will have on the performance of our web server. If you would like to contribute, let me know and I'll forward instructions on how to upload it.

Meanwhile, as you visit the video pages, please let me know of anything unusual or problematic. Obviously, the slower your internet connection, the longer it will take to begin seeing the video.
Thanx

John

I just watch it. It looks great.

I don't know how it will effect bandwidth - but we can certainly experiment with smaller size fles. With the relative size of the viewing screen, you see very little pixelation.

I think there is diffently an optimum  -  file size/bandwidth ratio that we can come up with.

Thanks again for all your hard work on this and I hope everyone enjoys.

(BTW - I have a frog fish sequence from Bonaire that is OK)

Mike S

p.s. I occurs to me that we could test the server response by posting notice at DDN - I'm leaving that at your discretion.

I'm doing several things to monitor the performance. I opened up three computers and access the video simultaneously and it didn't seem to have a problem. I run about 10 websites on my sever. Of course this is a weekend and my regular clients are not working on their websites. We'll see a more realistic scenario when they come back to work Monday.

I'm excited about this and have a few other ideas up my sleeves that will make it easier for you (or any member) to upload on their own directly to the module in the same way you upload still photos.

As for posting on DDN, I almost beat you to it, but I'm waiting till later tomorrow to make sure my traffic statistics software is tracking downloads of the video properly.

Thanx for your trouble. And don't forget we need a .MOV QuickTime example. Maybe Brant has one?
Heck I might even put one up myself

Got your PM this morning. I'll see if I can generate a .mov file format. Its an option on my software, but I have used it.

Do I upload it in the same fashion?

Well - I've tried and tried (and tried) to generate a small .mov format sequence. Smallest size that I have been able to produce is 40meg for a 4 minute clip.

I even tried taking a 10meg .wmv format file and directly convert - result 40 meg.

Anyone got any other ideas.
